The Rich, the Famous and the Skilled

I was invited to an Appreciation Charity Dinner hosted by National Cancer Centre yesterday. Guest of honor is our President of Singapore. A very glam kind of dinner.

During the cocktail reception, we were introduced to the President as fundraisers for NCC. Shook his hand, have a small chat and took a photo. Very nice guy and it has been a great priviledge to do so at that moment. Lots of guards kept their eyes on me as I chatted with him, can’t blame them. They will jump on me if I decided to stick my finger and poked his belly.

Dinner starting.. smooth jazz music by Thomson Jazz band. A group of skilled musicians from all walks of life; taxidriver, student, lecturer, construction worker, photographer, etc. All had a common interest in Jazz and they had certainly entertained us with their great skills.

Glancing across tables, many famous people were there, I saw the brother of Mr Lee Kuan Yew, very much like him, except in a smaller size. Heard that some of these people had donated millions to NCC. One of them had even donated $10 million dollars to NCC in one night! Saw the happy wives around them, all dressed up with a scent of richness surrounded them, laughing, gossiping away..

Saw many reporters walking around trying to formulate an article from this, many photographers trying to capture the best shots for these people. Hotel captain and staffs up-keeping at their tip-top condition not to create any discomfort to all these Ritz guests.

Suddenly, the title of my blog lighted up. The Rich, the Famous and the Skilled.

The Skilled serving the Rich and Famous, earning a living for their small family, serving the tables knowing they have bills to pay, playing their jazz band for both passion and small incentives, compiling their interviews to write out a good article. The Rich and Famous, wives marvelling at each other’s latest diamonds and jeweleries, husbands laughing and having fun chatting about their golf games, doing some good deeds by donating millions to the charity..

Question, which has a better life? Subjective. If I can choose, I prefers to be the Skilled. Simple, content, straightforward and of course, skilled. What about you?
