Managers are always taught to delegate and pass down responsibilities so that they can handle the bigger things in the organisation. Delegation is always part of the key factor to a successful leadership.
It is very easy to delegate, asking somebody to do the job is almost like a second nature. To some, it is a “delegate and forget”. Human tends to show its laziness when it comes to delegation.
“Just make it happen”, so said the boss. But when the result is being delivered, he is angry that your result does not meet his expectation. Sounds familiar ?
Everything rise and fall under leadership. If you, as a manager, want to see the result you desires, the key is constant inspection/guidance/supervision. If you do not inspect their progress, don’t expect a good result. Sorry but it is your fault for not ensuring things don’t go wrong, not the one under you.
True delegation comes after numerous inspection of different tasks, proving consistent good results from an individual and therefore able to expect consistent delivery from the same person with lesser supervision in the future.
So the next time you have a chance to handle a project or lead a team, remember, if you don’t inspect, don’t expect.
